Streamlining of Service Delivery in Immigration Department

NYAYO HOUSE, NAIROBI, KENYA
TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2024
1. The streamlining of service delivery at the Immigration Directorate has given way to more efficient passport production and issuance procedures. During the past three (3) years, many applicants of the Kenyan passports have faced inconveniences occasioned by underfunding, shortage of passport booklets, breakdown of printing equipment, corruption and poor public relations by staff.
2. The reforms initiated in May 2023 have resolved the backlog on the production and issuance of passports. The Government has availed adequate resources for passport production. There are now sufficient stocks of passport booklets and new modern high-capacity printers have been acquired for personalization of passport details. A program is in place for sustaining the reforms in the long run, including ensuring that the Immigration Directorate remains a corruption-free environment.
3. This afternoon, directed the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to roll out a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to ensure that the 49,500 passports that were part of the historic backlog of 724,000 passports are delivered and collected within fourteen (14) days with effect from May 10, 2024 as follows:
• Nairobi – 27,000
• Mombasa – 3,000
• Nakuru – 4,200
• Embu – 4,500
• Eldoret – 3,900
• Kisumu – 3,900
• Kisii – 3,000
• Kericho - 400
