With 56 days remaining till this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, preparations in Wajir County have reached a critical phase, with the main venue for the national celebrations, Wajir Stadium now 28 percent complete. The progress underscores the Government’s commitment to delivering a modern, fully equipped facility in time for the historic national event.
During a recent inspection tour led by Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, who chairs the National Celebrations Steering Committee, officials expressed confidence that the remaining works will be finalized within the stipulated timelines. The final phase of construction is currently focused on seating installation, pitch development, drainage systems, and essential amenities to ensure the stadium meets required national standards.
The stadium upgrade is part of a broader infrastructure development plan aimed at not only hosting a successful Madaraka Day celebration but also leaving a lasting legacy for the residents of Wajir. Once complete, the facility is expected to support sports development, community events, and economic activity in the region.
Also present during the inspection was the host Governor, Ahmed Abdullahi, alongside national and county government officials. The leaders emphasized the importance of timely completion, noting that the stadium will serve as the centerpiece of the celebrations, hosting thousands of attendees including dignitaries and members of the public.
Beyond the stadium, complementary works are ongoing across the county, including the County Commissioner’s residence which is set to host the luncheon, road improvements, beautification of the town, and strengthening of security and emergency response systems. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that Wajir is fully prepared to host the nation in a safe, organized, and dignified manner.
As the countdown to Madaraka Day continues, attention remains firmly on completing the remaining works, conducting final inspections, and aligning all logistical components. Dr. Omollo has reiterated that Wajir will be ready to deliver a successful celebration that reflects Kenya’s unity, progress, and national pride.
