The Government is delivering real, people centered development through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) in the Nyanza Region. In our latest “State of BETA National Development Scorecard”, compiled through monitoring and evaluation by National Government Administrative Officers, impressive results are shown across multiple priority sectors, with Nyanza Region recording solid gains in affordable housing, modern markets, education, water and sanitation, roads and transport, and the blue economy.

These investments are creating thousands of jobs, improving livelihoods, and bringing modern infrastructure to secondary towns and rural areas.

County-by-County Performance
Kisumu County – 8.5/10
Kisumu is setting the pace as the regional leader. Over 9,000 affordable housing units have been rolled out including Lumumba and other flagship projects, alongside more than 5,000 student hostels and major TVET expansion. The county has also completed modern markets, mega water projects including the new Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project, and transformative transport infrastructure such as the new Kisumu International Airport Control Tower and ground breaking of the 50km Standard Gauge Railway that will traverse the county.

Homa Bay County – 7.5/10
Homa Bay is shining in market development with 8 modern market stall units completed across Kobodo, Misambi, Rodi Kopany and other areas. Strong progress has also been recorded in 4 major transport upgrades, 2 mega water supply projects, and 2 Blue Economy initiatives including fish landing support infrastructure.

Migori County – 7.5/10
Migori is performing strongly in transport infrastructure with 4 major road upgrades (Masara-Sori, Motemorabu-Masaba, Riosi-Godjope, Isebania-Angata). Additional gains include 3 student hostels, expanded healthcare facilities (Kegonga Level 4 and Piny Owuacho hospital), affordable housing in Mabera, and food security through the Lower Kuja irrigation scheme.

Siaya County – 7/10
Siaya has delivered 5 modern market stall units and 3 school upgrades including Jaramogi Odinga University facilities. Key achievements also include the completed Ugunja-Sega-Ukwala water supply project, Blue Economy programmes, and food security initiatives through the Lower Nzoia irrigation scheme.

These results clearly demonstrate the Government’s commitment to equitable and inclusive development as it remains focused on accelerating implementation so that every Kenyan benefits from quality infrastructure, better services and economic opportunities.
