Following the events of 30th January 2018 at Uhuru Park by National Super Alliance, (NASA), led by Raila Odinga and other leaders, the Government wishes to state as follows;

  1. What was witnessed at Uhuru Park was a well- choreographed attempt to subvert or overthrow the legally constituted Government of the Republic of Kenya.
  2. The Government was and is aware of the role of some elements in the media fraternity who participated in furtherance of this illegal act. Their complicity would have led to thousands of deaths of innocent Kenyans due to the buildup of the incitement that was witnessed in early hours of the morning of 30th January 2018.
  3. Media owners and all relevant actors had been given a full security situation brief well ahead of the illegal activities of NASA. Unfortunately, some media houses chose to disregard this advice, their own code of ethics, self-regulation, and the moral responsibility of every Kenyan to safeguard the security of their fellow citizens.

The Supreme Court ruling yesterday which upheld the re-election of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta brings to an end the electioneering period.

We note with appreciation and commend Kenyans for remaining largely peaceful and patient throughout the long process since the August 8th and their voting peacefully on 26th October 2017.

The national Police Service take great exception to untruthful allegations made by some NASA politicians to the effect that the Police are responsible for killing 100 persons and hiding the corpses in body bags.

Equally, lacking in truth is the allegation made by the Kenya National Human Rights Commission that we are responsible for 24 deaths.

I wish to update the country on the state of security since Wednesday.

Yesterday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) concluded the 2017 General Elections upon the declaration of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta as the President-elect.

I wish to thank Kenyans for keeping calm throughout the tallying process, and cooperating with security actors which ensured peace and security.

Cabinet Secretary Major General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaisserry and the Principal Secretary Amb. Monica Juma addresses evacuated Air France passengers at Travelers hotel. Suspicious device discovered in flight AF463’s lavatory forced jet to make emergency landing in Mombasa International Airport.

The plane was a Boeing 777 with  459 passengers and 14 crew members who have all been safely evacuated to hotels. A number of passengers are still under interrogation.
